Connecting Android devices to Wi-Fi
For you to use Wi-Fi in your android device, you can change how and when your device connects to Wi-Fi to customize it.
When you turn on Wi-Fi, your device automatically connects to neighboring networks you’ve used. Your smartphone may also automatically switch on Wi-Fi near stored networks. You can follow these steps to connect to a Wi-Fi network:
Turning on to connect
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Network & internet and then Internet.
- Tap a listed network. Networks that require a password have a lock icon .
Tips: After connecting, the network is “Saved.” When close and Wi-Fi is active, your device immediately joins.
Sharing a mobile connection through hotspot or tethering on Android
Your phone’s mobile data can link another phone, tablet, or computer to the internet. This is termed tethering or hotspoting. Some phones can tether Wi-Fi. The majority of Android phones can transfer data by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB.
Important: Some cell providers limit or charge for tethering. Consult your carrier.
Turn on your hotspot
- Swipe down from the top of the screen
- Tap Hotspot.
Tap Edit at the bottom left and drag Hotspot into Quick Settings if you don’t see it.
Connecting other devices to your phone’s hotspot.
- Access the other device’s Wi-Fi options on the other devices
- Name your phone’s hotspot.
- Type your phone’s hotspot password.
- Select Connect.
If you don’t want your hotspot to require a password:
- Swipe down from the top.
- Touch and hold Hotspot.
- Tap “Security,” then None.
Selecting tethering method
Tethering by Wi-Fi
- Swipe down from the top.
- Touch and hold Hotspot.
- Enable Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Tap your hotspot name or password to discover or modify it. May need to tap first. Create Wi-Fi hotspot.
Bluetooth tethering
- Pair your phone with the gadget.
- Configure the other device’s Bluetooth network.
- Swipe down from the top of your phone.
- Touch and hold Hotspot.
- Allow Bluetooth tethering.
Tether via USB
- USB cord your phone to the other device. Top-of-screen notifications appear.
- Swipe down from the top of your phone.
- Touch and hold Hotspot.
- Start USB tethering.
